POWER OF ATTORNEY
A Power of Attorney is a legal document that gives the person you nominate and trust the legal authority to act on your behalf you and to make legally binding decisions for you.
The problem is the loss of your mental capacity through something like a stroke or the onset of dementia means you may not able to manage your affairs in the manner you are used to relating to your day to day business.
That in turn means simple things like withdrawing money from a bank, transacting with a telephone company or your car insurance company may become difficult if not impossible to do. This brings your personal affairs to a standstill causing unnecessary disruption.
We therefore recommend you consider making what is called an Enduring Power of Attorney.
Appointing a partner, brother or sister, an adult child or a trusted friend makes sense and is a simple and easy way to deal with the issues we have outlined above.
